Duty to Report and Protocol Investigations
Presenters: Cory Stancombe-Team Leader with North Shore Intake and Assesment and Protocol Investigations
Kim Gunn: Practise Consultant with the Vancouver Coastal Service Delivery Area
This presentation will provide a clear and practical overview of the Duty to Report under the Child, Family and Community Service Act (CFCSA). We will explain why every community member plays a critical role in child protection, what legal obligations exist, and how to respond to disclosures. Participants will leave with a solid understanding of when and how to make a report, what information is most helpful, and what to expect during the process.
We also discuss happens when a Protocol Investigation is initiated. Cory will discuss the steps involved including: what triggers a protocol, how professionals collaborate, what information is gathered, and how decisions are made with the safety of children at the forefront. This presentation provides clarity, reduces uncertainty, and supports community partners in understanding their role, responsibilities, and the collaborative nature of protocol responses.
